2008 Photography Contest - Individual Categories
- SPOT NEWS - A picture of an unscheduled news event for which there was no planning.
- GENERAL NEWS - A picture of a scheduled news event for which advanced planning was possible.
- FEATURE - A storytelling picture not necessarily news related; usually a "found" situation that has strong human interest or a fresh view of daily life.
- SPORTS ACTION - An action photograph during the competitive play of a game or sport.
- SPORTS FEATURE - A feature picture that is sports related.
- PORTRAIT / PERSONALITY - A picture that captures an aspect of
the subject's character.
- PICTORIAL - A picture that exploits the graphic aesthetic qualities of the subject with emphasis on composition.
- PRODUCT ILLUSTRATION - A picture that illustrates any product, including (but not limited to) food and clothing.
- ISSUE ILLUSTRATION - A picture produced from a preconceived
idea and intended to clarify or dramatize non-visual or editorial concepts.
- NEWS PICTURE STORY or ESSAY - A collection of news pictures which reveal a story line. 12 images maximum per story.
- FEATURE PICTURE STORY or ESSAY - A collection of feature pictures which reveal a story line, or a collection of photographs on one subject. 12 images maximum per story.
- SPORTS PICTURE STORY or ESSAY - A collection of sports pictures which reveal a story line. 12 images maximum per story.
- INDIVIDUAL MULTIMEDIA - A group of still images, video and/or sound, collected by the individual entrant, used together to tell a single story or theme. The first place individual multimedia entry will be included in the Best in Show candidates.
- TEAM MULTIMEDIA - A group of still images, video and/or sound, collected by a team of at least two people, used together to tell a single story or theme. The first place team multimedia entry will NOT be included in the Best in Show candidates.
